An operation is an exceptional situation for patients. There is a great desire for healing without complications and with human attention. It is important to establish a relationship of trust between patient and surgeon. The development of medicine, and surgery in particular, is moving towards maximum specialization and efficiency. The lecture examines the development of modern surgical procedures through to operations with robotic systems. It attempts to classify the technical developments in a patient-oriented surgery.
